The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is an employment training program for low-income, unemployed individuals age 55 years and older. The program provides subsidized, part-time work experience for a limited time through community service. Participants in the program learn new skills and talents, or enhance existing skills, through valuable work experience and other training to become competitive in today's workforce, and transition into unsubsidized employment.
Participants have some computer training, and if they are interested in this type of work, we can support them by ensuring they complete the necessary training, providing technology assistance if needed. The majority of our participants are women, with many holding high school diplomas, though some do not. Some participants receive disability benefits but need to work to make ends meet. Others may have lost a spouse or significant other and now have minimal or no retirement income. Many have been out of the workforce for years but now need to earn an income.

Our participants are often interested in roles such as retail, clerical work, receptionist, customer service, caregiving, or cooking. Some have experience in direct care roles. However, due to workers’ compensation policies, our participants are not allowed to drive to multiple locations. They are limited to working at one site.
